    One problem with PARS is that it should be generated nationwide before they implement it. Also by taking it completely out of the carriers hands they have opened it up to errors that will take longer to correct. I have customers who go back and forth several times a year, they have counted on me to make sure their mail keeps up, now that I have been taken out of the loop they are confused, and there have been problems. I have 2 customers that live at #4 different streets, Last names start with BUCH, and BUCK they both put in forwards, their mail is being sent to each other. Who do they call? Not CFS, me.
    I have a customer who is a temporary forward, who works with the Lions Club. He sent out a mailing and had some returned mail, I forwarded it to him, but CFS picks up the wrong address on every piece, and sends them back to me as an error. Not their error, mine. That customer has called me twice in 2 months. I think as usual The USPS has put the cart before the horse, and in their hurry to make us all H routes have left out some very important details.

    I have started to write the new address on the new 3982. I know I am not paid to do this, but when there are problems, I have access to that address without going to a supervisor and asking them to look for the new address on the computer. When the yellow sticker comes back from CFS, I place it above the new address, so I can see it easily.

    Pars is being phased in in Denver now and has been implemenyed in Colo Springs I believe. Denver does not have the full hardware in place yet and we have been told there are some big problems with the software(German made) that are hanging up the whole system. I have personally had multiple COA’s that just vanish in the ether, the forward stickers never materialize and then the whole thing just goes south. I personally photo-copy all the Coa’s before I send them down as a protection against this, (however the powers that be won’t accept them for a re-submit) so the problems can’t be fixed. I guess this may be another fine example of the PO buying and implimenting a system before it has been de-bugged and they appear hell bent to force it on us and our customers without a viable plan B and with no assurance the damn thing will ever perform as promised (can anyone say 95 by 95, as we were told DPS would function). Deja Vu all over again

    Could it be they are trying to kill the free forwarding program in favor of a paid forwarding program?

    It is my understanding that part of the reason the PO has impemented this system is because of all the new privacy laws that have passed into law. That is why only EAS employees are allowed access to the information. I have felt the impact of these new laws myself when I called to have a welfare check done on an elderly customer who had not checked his mail in while. In the past, the Police were happy to call back and let us know what the situation was, now, they won’t release any information at all! The PARS sytem leaves a lot to desired in regards to service. Maybe the QWL workteams and DJSCs can work on making it better.

    Don’t bet on QWL making ANYTHING better! Managers will just continue to use it to extract concessions from us that they have been unsucessful getting at the negotiating table.

    DJSC is only as good as the people trying to get hired in a higher level assignment to get out of doing rural delivery… oops did I day that?

    Linda,
    It has always been a practice in our office to photocopy the forwarding notice before sending it to CFS because somehow they always manage to misplace stuff…..Anyway, now with the new system where we only get the yellow sticker back, we still have the photocopy with all the important information to stick it to.

    I once infuriated a district manager beyond his ability to control himself by telling him “If you think that all the intelligence and wisdom in the Post Office is at the Postmaster level and higher, you are sadly mistaken”. It is too often the case that the “thinkers” come up with these ideas and force the rest of us to make them work. We should be consulted before these things are implemented. By doing so some of the problems could be addressed before they become problems. Believe it or not, we can think too.
