It’s hard to believe this happened in the late ’70’s but it did. This is a link to a video that typifies the atmosphere of those times, not just in the post office, but everywhere.
It’s not just the post office, but also the entire society that is victimized when these transgressions take their toll on people who have invested their lifeblood and sweat in a job that degrades their health as well as happiness.

When Lincoln said, “We hold these truths to be self evident” that has to be applied here and elsewhere in our thoughts regarding fairness and the purpose of our being.
This is Martin Luther King Junior’s birthday and we should celebrate his stand against the tyranny of the state without our being targeted as an enemy of the state.
He knew the consequences of standing tall and still made that ultimate sacrifice because events had chosen him, a man of character and compassion with a ringing voice, to lead our nation as being the one most capable of delivering that message.
In a society that is based on self-determination, is it not our charge to question the very premise that enslaves our fellow beings on this planet, differentiating between self-determination and selfish determinism?
Is “Free Enterprise” a term of words that exemplify an “Oxymoron”?
“Liberty” is a pursuit, “Life” is a pursuit, and so is “Happiness”.
The Gettysburg address by Lincoln gave us no guarantees, but illuminated a premise that we are endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights. Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness were among those rights.
If we make known our feelings of oppression and outrage in a “Free” society, and that announcement becomes reason for our marginalization at the cost of our liberty and income then what does that say about the character of a “Free Society”. Should we be contemptuous of those very laws that bind our spirits to that injustice in a nation based on the rule of law?
We have chosen to marginalize neighboring nations by not annexing them into our own rich nation, and that richness is highly based on their participation in our economy in a direct way by providing a source of very cheap labor, and very inexpensive products. Is it time for us to include all American nations in the United States of America?
This nation, while protecting the fortunes of a small few, also allows those few to be protected anywhere they travel in the world and give them advantages in nations without the legal framework we have built here.
As long as we enslave, or allow enslavement of anyone for our own selfish need to live the life of luxury, then we are hypocrites (actors,) misrepresenting the truth and have a society built upon a flimsy pursuit of happiness without the character to give back to those who make a heavy sacrifice to keep this nation viable.
How do we keep our people able to achieve heights without degradation of our fellow beings? How can we enjoy spiritual growth, when we stand by and watch as others are enslaved? How can we allow others to not share in our standards built by the lifeblood of those who have sacrificed all to give us something they thought right!
Not everyone comes equipped with excellent bodily functions to make them a top competitor or even able to compete at all. Some have superior athletic skills and some have superior creative skills and yet others skills of thought and computation. Because they are the top, does that mean everyone else suffers?
Do we play popularity games based on likability, view-ability, and desirability? Do we exclude everyone else because they might embarrass someone? Should our society fit a very narrow mold and rigid set of rules of inclusion? Should the very top have free reign to travel anywhere in the world benefiting from all countries of the world while those of a lesser god, eek out food and shelter and struggle to survive one more day? Is this the world we seek to live in, we strive for; we want to brag about?
You could make the argument that the leaders of other countries do not want to be part of this country, but I challenge that charge with, why then are their citizens breaking down the doors to get to this country? Why are there 12,000,000 Hispanics and others here illegally? In a nation of 300,000,000 is that significant?
You could say that this country is a very rich and successful country and those riches are sought by the citizens of our neighboring countries.
True, but why is this country so rich in the first place? We don’t have a majority of the mineral reserves, those are in other continents. We don’t have the majority population that is in Asia. We don’t have the greatest natural resources that is in Africa
This, by the way, is not a call to Socialism, Communism or any Ism you might think of. It is a call to use the resources available to make the reasons for suffering disappear.
Anyone who is a real person of conscience, and not just an actor playing the part can see the truths here in these words of praise for a man who is the model citizen, neighbor, teacher, and leader of our times.
He was not elected to office! He was not chosen to lead the churches! He was not the head of a fraternal order! He did not fight on foreign shores. He was the soul of our nation, no; he is the soul of our world.
Please join with me to give thanks to this man, and this man’s family, appropriately called King, who opened up the light of our souls to the possibilities of our spirits. Jesus asked us, what greater gift could a man give than his life for another. I thank you Martin for your true gift to the world.
