How Important Is “The Count”

Posted in Who's Your Daddy? by GW on the March 11th, 2006

The count: That time of year when we start dreading the route inspections. That time of year when we have to scrutinize every detail, the number of vacant boxes over 90 days, the number of new boxes added since the last route inspection, the number of snowbirds, the time of year, the weather, the mileage, and more.

Then we have to relearn the time standards, the allowable credits in the way of what is and what will not be allowed on “R? time and Mark-Ups. We have to rehash whether or not “Netflicks? will be a letter, flat or parcel.

This crucial time of year to a Rural Carrier determines what his worth is to his family, his coworkers, his relief carriers, his union and the USPS. We have to ask what controls the count, such as the clerks that move the mail, stage the mail redirect the mail, the plant that processes the mail on a mass scale and with a flinch of misdirection, can cause major deficiencies in a Rural Carriers evaluation.

You might say, well it’s his fault that things went wrong, he has been a jerk in the office and deserves to get shorted. I guess that’s the way of it. That’s life.
